Amino HPLC Columns for Normal Phase, HILIC and USP L8 Applications

Cogent NP™ Amino HPLC Columns are designed for the separation of sugars, carbohydrates, carboxylic acids, and other polar compounds using Normal Phase and HILIC chromatography. Manufactured with high-purity silica and proven bonding technology, these columns provide reliable performance, excellent reproducibility, and the unique selectivity required for challenging polar analytes.

Cogent NP™ Amino columns are also suitable for laboratories using USP L8 methods and other established amino stationary phase applications where method consistency and reproducible retention are important.

Applications for Cogent NP™ Amino Columns

Cogent NP™ Amino columns are commonly used for:

  • Sugar and carbohydrate analysis

  • Organic and carboxylic acid separations

  • Food and beverage testing

  • Pharmaceutical analysis

  • USP L8 chromatography methods

  • Normal phase chromatography

  • HILIC method development

  • Polar compound separations

Unique Amino Stationary Phase Selectivity

The amino-propyl bonded phase creates a polar stationary phase capable of retaining compounds through multiple interaction mechanisms. The amino functionality contributes polarity and can influence retention based on:

  • Analyte polarity

  • Molecular size

  • Hydrogen bonding interactions

  • Access to the bonded amino ligand

  • Hydrophilic interactions

This combination of retention mechanisms provides selectivity that is often difficult to achieve using conventional reversed-phase columns.

Normal Phase and HILIC Versatility

Amino stationary phases are traditionally used in Normal Phase HPLC, where they are highly effective for sugars and other polar compounds. However, Cogent NP™ Amino columns can also be used in HILIC mode when greater retention of highly polar analytes is required.

This versatility allows analysts to optimize separations without changing stationary phase chemistry.

Available Configurations

Additional column configurations may be available including:

  • Analytical columns

  • Guard columns

  • Preparative columns

  • Process chromatography columns

Recommended Column Protection

For maximum column life and optimal chromatographic performance, MICROSOLV recommends using a Cogent HPLC Column Filter whenever possible. Column filters help reduce contamination from particulates and strongly retained materials, helping preserve column efficiency and reproducibility.
